Survival, Motherhood & Eternity: Finding Faith and Future Beyond the Present

“Survival, Motherhood & Eternity”

Religion, family, and politics. Three topics to almost always avoid. But I don’t read social cues very well due to my brain injury. I want to help inspire others. However, to inspire others, I need to tell what truly brought me to survival and recovery—God.

I have something I need to get out of the way, and shine some light on a great question that I stumbled upon today: why believe?

We are told to believe in Jesus, then we can attain eternal salvation.

But then an even more powerful question—why does that even matter? I’m worrying only about the present because that’s what I can control.

This thinking takes me down rabbit hole after rabbit hole.

I’m told by my therapist to worry about what I can control. But, I can control my future if I care about my eternal self—my afterlife.

I am NOT telling anyone what they should do. I want everyone to gain eternal salvation. But I can’t do it for anyone reading; I have to worry about myself, my husband, and our child.

All that being said, I care THE MOST about my eternal life. I care about everyone’s, but I focus on caring for what I can control. I cannot control whether someone believes.

Whether someone agrees or not, there is irrefutable evidence that Jesus of Nazareth existed. We have science, historical information, second hand accounts, etc. to prove he was real.

That happens to not be the issue. The real issue: 1. Caring about the afterlife. What happens when my human body and organs stop working? They almost did. I can attest that, even though I’m young, I care very much about the afterlife because I almost had to worry about that.

Throughout all of history, every religion that has existed worries about the afterlife.

Then, I have asked myself more often after giving birth, “how do I attain the afterlife?”. Now that I’ve given life to this world, I care about my life, my husband’s, and our child’s.

If I haven’t learned how to gain eternal life while my temporary life here on earth almost ended, I better learn now that I’ve reproduced.

I can’t explain the feeling in words, but when I gave birth to this world, I cared a lot more about things I normally cared about.

So, I’ve covered religion points to an afterlife, whether I have questioned it or not, it must exist. Whether I want to believe it or not, it does.

I also crossed a line about mentioning the existence of Jesus because he’s the most studied historical figure. So, I gave birth, I began to care even more about the afterlife, then, I wondered “what do I believe to attain this?”

I was born and raised a Catholic Christian. I will not argue or impose on any beliefs because I do not have near enough knowledge to continue. I just know what I believe. And I’m still learning.

However, I do know that to state “believe” means much more than the simple admittance someone exists.

To believe in someone or something means to have faith in that “higher” power. To believe in anything or anyone, a person does not need absolute proof to confirm whether they believe.

Without continuing on and sounding as though I feel I’m forcing anyone or anything, I’ll end at this.

I almost had my life ripped from me. Recently, I gave a life to this world. Presently, I worry about eternity. In the future, I can do everything possible to attain eternal life for my husband, our child, and myself.

I can worry about everyone else. But I have enough trouble tying my shoes everyday. Thank you for reading, I will continue to inspire through my story. Please, continue to share.
