Who Holds the Pace? Faith, Human Limits, and Trusting God

I use life as an analogy for running, I’m in control with human reasoning. However, I am not in control of my life. God is.

With running, I am in control with human reasoning. I know if I run really hard, I can’t make it very far without running out of breath. I run out of energy, quickly. If I run my hardest, and I refuse to listen to human reasoning, I will fall and possibly get hurt.

If I’m running and think God is in control, I will run harder. I may or may not injure myself because I’m no longer thinking of human reasoning.

How does this play into my life? Well, if I understand that God is in control rather than me, I do what I’m told and see what happens. Without the reasoning of my conscience, I’m more likely to listen to God.

I might fall and get hurt, I might end up walking sooner, I might end up getting to the finish line. I can go based off previous experience, or I can make a new race and not know how it will finish.

Either way, as dissatisfying as it is, I don’t know how I will finish. I just have to accept that that’s for God to know and me to never figure out.

I need to run as if God is in control. I can listen to my own human reasoning so I don’t hurt myself. But I have to acknowledge God is always in control with my own reasoning.

I go based off feeling and knowledge, and I pray to figure out the rest. I trust that God will help if I don’t know how to do it on my own.

Either way, whether I stop based off time, mileage, or when I fall, all that matters is if I feel satisfied.

The same analogy goes for life. God is in control. But also so am I. I’m happiest if I know God is in control, and I’m satisfied. I trust that God is in control. So if I fail, get back up, and go til i drop. Or I use my common sense and go without dropping.

Still, I move more than what I think, and I use God as my motivation rather than evil. Evil says “stop when I tell you to”. God says “go, and I’ll help.” So, which one do I choose?
